Congratulations on a fantastic and exciting year. You have worked hard to understand the film making process and create some amazing videos. Now it is time to make sure that you have a collection of your work. Your final assignment is to create a digital portfolio of your work.

Your portfolio can be temporarily stored in your my documents or a USB depending on the size. You can then transfer it to your own computer.

Create a folder called VJ Digital Portfolio.

Create four sub folders entitled:

Videoplace your movies here

Imagesplace any posters or photoshop work that you have created here

Otherplace documents, presentations or any other work here

Inspirationplace examples of creative work or links to websites that you find helpful here

What do you think of this?

Our challenge for this week is to create a short film based on a Seinfeld episode. You are expected to keep the setting the same but alter the characters and the plot details. You will have one day to storyboard and script, one day to shoot and one day to edit. No double takes for this project. Here is a clip about the episode from Youtube.

Viral Marketing

Filed under: Film Festival,Ideas,Viral Marketing — dilworthm at 8:29 am on Thursday, April 17, 2008

I have posted a news report of viral marketing gone awry. The objects placed around the city to promote a movie were mistaken for possible explosive devices and raised a scare around the city. Although the city of Boston was unhappy by the disturbance the event caused, the movie actually received national news coverage as a result. I think we need to keep this example in mind when we are considering how to promote our festival. We do not want to have a negative impact on student learning at school in the process.

I found this definition from Wikipedia very interesting, viral marketing uses “use preexisting social networks to produce increases in brand awareness”. What preexisting social networks can we tap into at school to make people more aware of the film festival?

pcrews

The date for our final film festival has been set for April 30 at 3:30 in the FAT. Each Production Crew will be able to share 2 films from this half of the year. We have tentatively decided on 5 award categories for the final films:

Creativity Award

Best Editing

Best Cinematography

Best Actor/Actress

Best Picture

If you are interested in being the MC, please let me know so that we can begin planning the agenda for the afternoon. We will also need a volunteer to start designing the brochure as well. Here are some dates to keep in mind.

By April 18, each group must submit at least 1 poster design and a marketing plan that details how, when, and where we will be advertising for the festival.

By April 25, each group must submit their final video.

Fairytales and more Music Videos

We will be hosting the Grade 2 class on Friday to view their Fairytale movies and claymation videos. Please let me know if you need any help with the editing. Also you should be wrapping up work on your Genre Project for Wednesday’s class.

The TED website just released this video that shares a different interpretation of how music videos should be created as an expression of the song. What do you think of the video?
