I have posted a news report of viral marketing gone awry. The objects placed around the city to promote a movie were mistaken for possible explosive devices and raised a scare around the city. Although the city of Boston was unhappy by the disturbance the event caused, the movie actually received national news coverage as a result. I think we need to keep this example in mind when we are considering how to promote our festival. We do not want to have a negative impact on student learning at school in the process.
I found this definition from Wikipedia very interesting, viral marketing uses “use preexisting social networks to produce increases in brand awareness”. What preexisting social networks can we tap into at school to make people more aware of the film festival?
Today, I will be meeting with each group to discuss 3 topics:
1) Your ideas for you next video
2) Poster Design drafts – Do you need any Photoshop Tips?
3) Marketing Ideas – How will we let teachers, parents and students know about the
Please post your ideas to your Blog before next class.
The date for our final film festival has been set for April 30 at 3:30 in the FAT. Each Production Crew will be able to share 2 films from this half of the year. We have tentatively decided on 5 award categories for the final films:
Creativity Award
Best Editing
Best Cinematography
Best Actor/Actress
Best Picture
If you are interested in being the MC, please let me know so that we can begin planning the agenda for the afternoon. We will also need a volunteer to start designing the brochure as well. Here are some dates to keep in mind.
By April 18, each group must submit at least 1 poster design and a marketing plan that details how, when, and where we will be advertising for the festival.
By April 25, each group must submit their final video.
April 30 – Film Festival
Fur on Fire’s music video “Elevate Myself” has been chosen by their peers to represent Video Journalism in the IB Film Festival. Stay tuned for the times and dates for the IB Film Fest and the Video Journalism Film Fest.
Parents, teachers and students are invited to attend the first Video Journalism Film Festival. Congratulations to Chloe and her winning poster design!
Production Crews, please continue to work on your short intro video and the Empathy project. You need to organize a time to collaborate with the Wellness students. Shooting is scheduled to begin on Monday.
The date has been set for December 7 at 3pm in the Little Theater. We still need to hammer out a couple of details though.
1) What is the goal of the Festival? – Should it be a competition, a showcase of our best work or something else?
2) What order will we present our work? – Will we group the films by project or by production company?
3) Can we think of a more original name for the Festival? – We need something creative that will arouse people’s curiosity to attend.
4) We need to design a poster to promote the festival. Check out my first draft above and post one on your blog by Monday.
5) Who will be the MCs? – What do you think of having 2 MCs?
Here are some other examples of Film Festival Posters to get some ideas. Make note of how each poster includes somthing to do with film like a reel or a camera as well as a design that reflects the location.
